Mustard Family Foods is born, where did it all begin?

In the blink of an eye the world as we knew it changed. The UK was on lockdown, the majority of businesses closed abruptly and thousands of people lost their livelihood overnight.

Mustard Foods was no exception. Being an established supplier of the finest food to 32 restaurant groups across the UK, we found ourselves coming to a sudden halt on Friday, the 13th of March. Heart-breaking announcements were made to loyal staff members. It was unthinkable to witness twelve years of hard work and dedication crumble.

“We had to do something, we couldn’t not fight and we needed something quick to get people’s minds focused on a positive.” – James Durrant, CEO and owner of Mustard Family Foods.

But how?

The next morning, James Durrant got in touch with his business partner, James Robins and the management team, determined to turn the situation around. What if a business to business model, could be changed to a business to customer model? What if we could bring our finest restaurant quality food to every kitchen in town and keep our staff employed?

An emergency management meeting was called on Sunday, 15th of March where we developed an online frozen food business with some of our favourites.

In the meantime, an old friend, JC Muller, was roped in to build a website in 24 hours. By Monday, 16th of March, our Shopify online shop was in full swing; we were back in the food business! We even made our first sale on our opening day.

So, what’s on the menu?

We created four irresistible family meal boxes:

Frozen Family Chicken boxes which come in three delicious flavours, such as Chicken Tikka Masala, Chicken Satay and Coq au Vin, a French chicken dish braised with wine, lardons and mushrooms.

Frozen Family Beef boxes which include rich bolognese, traditional Beef Bourguignon and Chilli con carne, a taste from Mexico.

Frozen Family Vegan boxes comprising exotic meals like Keralan Vegetable Curry from South India, Thai Red Vegetable Curry and Vegetable Katsu Curry from Japan.

Enjoying your favourite restaurant food in the comfort of your own home is as easy as a ‘click’ away!
