What is Red Tractor?

Red Tractor is a non-profit company that leads farm and food chain assurance in the UK. They develop farm and food standards based on science, best practice and legislation that cover animal welfare, food safety, traceability and environmental protection. Around 50 000 British farmers are Red Tractor-accredited which means their poultry, meat or crops are farmed with responsibility, safety and traceability.

Why is Red Tractor important?

Red Tractor works closely with animal welfare experts, vets, agronomists, and supply chain specialists to ensure that all certified products are traceable, safe and farmed with care. They accomplish this through a team of 350 independent inspectors who conduct over 60,000 robust assessments a year. This means that when more producers become Red Tractor-accredited, more responsibly-farmed meat will enter the supply chain in supermarkets, restaurants, and production facilities, such as Mustard Foods.

Why does Mustard use Red Tractor-accredited meat?

We are committed to using higher welfare, responsibly-sourced meat and poultry in all our products. Using Red Tractor-accredited chicken in our Coq au Vin or Truffle Chicken and Porcini means we are using the highest quality British poultry available. Red Tractor has strict requirements on animal welfare and they regulate the responsible use of animal medicine including antibiotics. Through Red Tractor we assure our clients that we’re not only using fine ingredients like truffles and porcini, but also the highest quality British poultry.
